Vietnam Grand Prix Travel Guide

Since the final chequered flag fell in Malaysia in 2017, it’s been left to Singapore to represent South East Asia in Formula One. Then after long being rumoured, in 2018 it was finally announced that Vietnam would become the latest country to stage an F1 Grand Prix.

Though Formula 1 has never been huge in Vietnam it’s proximity to Japan and Australia should see the event well attended by hardcore F1 fans, bringing more tourism to this already popular travel destination.

The circuit is the latest from the drawing board of Herman Tilke. Although it’s a street circuit it’s long straights make it more similar to Baku than Monaco or Singapore.

It’s 1.5km straight is one of the longest of any Formula One circuit. In fact the track only partially makes use of existing roads. The especially constructed section of track from turn 13 to turn 22 forms the fast flowing Suzuka like esses and is the most obvious departure from typical street circuit layouts.

All of this should mean great racing. Long braking zones into tight corners offer overtaking opportunities and the mixture of fast straights and a high downforce final sector will make car setup difficult.
